With over 8 billion people, the world consumes more than 90 billion pieces of apparel every year, making it $3 trillion annual business. When Manasij Ganguli and Mausmi Ambastha looked at this opportunity, they realised the fabric cost itself contributed some $400 billion to the overall business.

“What Mausmi figured out was how to build a product to reduce the fabric cost by around 10%,” Manasij tells me in this podcast. Along with other co-founders, Manasij, Abhishek Srivastava and Bratish Goswami, Mausmi built intelloCut, an AI-based software tool that helped achieve cost savings for apparel makers. That’s how Threadsol was born in the year 2012.

“We were planning 1.4 billion garments, almost 2% of the world’s manufacturing was happening through our platform, and we had raised just $2.5 million,” says Manasij.

After a long, sometimes painfully slow, but fulfilling startup journey, Threadsol was acquired by Coats Digital, one of the world’s biggest thread makers, in December 2018.

“If we look back at the journey, we would not have done this. It was very hard,” adds Mausmi.

In this episode of SaaSBOOMi podcast, we talked about some of the most blunt lessons in building a startup, navigating the proverbial “valley(s) of death, and the undying source of entrepreneurial optimism, which keeps bringing founders such as Manasij and Mausmi on the journey again and again.

Manasij and Mausmi are now building a SaaS product in stealth, and staying with entrepreneurship.
